WesBanco welcomes a new managing director to the company.

On Tuesday, WesBanco’s board of directors hired Jeffrey H. Jackson as chief operating officer of WesBanco and its banking subsidiary WesBanco Back effective Aug. 15. Jackson will also serve as senior executive vice president of WesBanco and chairman of WesBanco Bank.

“I look forward to leading WesBanco into the future and continuing its tradition of excellence,” said Jackson. “My family and I are moving to the Wheeling area and we are excited to begin this new chapter in our lives. My past roles and experiences have prepared me well for this opportunity. WesBanco is a growing institution with a great future .

The company also said Jackson, 49, is expected to eventually succeed current WesBanco chairman and chief executive Todd Clossin upon Clossin’s scheduled retirement on Jan. 1, 2024.

Clossin, 60, will retire from WesBanco with approximately 10 years of service and a 40-year career in financial services including 25 years as bank president.

In the role of COO of Jackson, he will begin the transition phase of a change in the general management of WesBanco. When Jackson becomes President and CEO, he will enter into a new 3-year renewable fixed-term employment contract. Clossin will remain a member of WesBanco’s board of directors and of the board’s executive committee after his retirement.

“I am delighted to nominate such a talented executive to be my eventual successor,” Clossin said. “Jeff has demonstrated experience building and leading teams and delivering results in various markets throughout his career.”

Jackson joins WesBanco after a successful career at First Horizon Bank.

He most recently served as executive vice president and chief operating officer of regional banking services based in Memphis, Tennessee; Regional President for the State of Florida and Market President for Southeast Tennessee and Atlanta.

Prior to his banking career, he spent 15 years at IBM in various roles.

Jackson graduated from Auburn University and received a certificate in business strategy from Columbia University. He was active in many community activities throughout his career, including the Red Cross and the Urban League. He received the South Florida Boy Scouts Distinguished Citizens Award in 2020. Jackson and his wife, Ronna-Renee, will reside in the Wheeling area. They are parents of two children.
