JAMMU, Aug 3: Everester Sandeep Singh and international mountaineer Shivani Charak, who received the J&K Government Award for Outstanding Sport Persons, donated 50% of the cash prize of Rs 51,000 to their parent Club Tawi Trekkers J&K during from a function held at Jammu Press Club, here today.
Shivani Charak was the only sportsman from J&K to receive the J&K government award for the year 2020 while Sandeep was the only sportsman from Jammu division to receive the honor for the year 2021.
While the contribution of Sandeep Singh who serves in the Indian Navy was graciously accepted by the Club, the donation of Shivani Charak was greatly appreciated but humbly declined, she being a student.
Sandeep said he was pleasantly surprised and impressed when sport climbing ace Shivani Charak, although a student, also announced that she would donate 50% of her reward to the club. Sandeep Singh, however, requested that his small contribution could be used by the Club preferably for the promotion of short hikes for budding hikers.
Members of the Tawi Trekkers J&K office have expressed their gratitude to the distinguished climber for his kind gesture of donating money to the club.
