CHICO – The Butte Humane Society is raising money to pay for a badly needed replacement washer and dryer.
The current washer is held together with cardboard and bungee cords and is badly in need of replacement.
The fundraiser was launched on July 1 and the initial fundraising goal was reached in less than three days. The fundraising success led the organization to increase the end goal amount. The Butte Humane Society is now looking to reach its ambitious goal of $30,000.
The Butte Humane Society has also been in contact with a donor who asked to remain anonymous. This person donated an additional $16,000 to laundry efforts.
Although the fundraising campaign initially started as a starting point to sort out the laundry situation due to the rapid spread and huge amount of donations, the organization hopes to get two washers and dryers to really streamline its practices. of laundry.
On average, the Butte Humane Society has 100 cats and dogs in its care. These animals receive clean blankets and towels every day. The company has high sanitation standards, so they end up washing over 10,000 pounds of laundry every month.
“Laundry is such an essential part of functioning and could compromise health and comfort, which is why we do so much of it,” said foundation and business relations employee Gianna Anselmo.
Anselmo said the industrial-style washer is supposed to hold 60 pounds per wash.
Butte Humane Society executive director Katrina Woodcox said replacing the washer and dryer would be good for animals and people.
“The easier our lives are, the better life will be for animals,” Woodcox said. “If we can do laundry faster and more efficiently, everyone will benefit. Our need for a washer and dryer has reached new heights since we know our current appliances will die any day now.
